Tips for Filling YOUR Dumpster During the Rental Duration

The inside of our dumpster trailer

Do you like playing Tetris?

Tetris is a game that – for some – might be addicting. You try to ‘shuffle’ objects around to make them fit in all the right places. Well, filling a dumpster is a little like playing Tetris. In fact, you have to move items around to optimize the available space – regardless of the dumpster or dumpster trailer.

Here are several tips for filling YOUR dumpster…

TIP 1: Fill evenly left-to-right

When a trailer is not balanced, it can become increasingly more difficult to drive the trailer or dumpster down the road. Therefore, it is best to ensure that if you fill a heavy item on one side, that you offset the item weight on the opposing side. This will help with distribution and make it easier to continue to fill the structure.

TIP 2: Large items should be added to the dumpster FIRST

If you load larger items first, you will have a better idea of the remaining space to add smaller items. Additionally, smaller items will be able to be added as ‘fillers’ between larger items; therefore, conserving space in the entire structure (we will cover the reasons a little later in this posting).

TIP 3: Last in first out!

This is an item that at a first glance would only apply to those persons that might be unloading the dumpster or trailer. However, when a client is filling the dumpster on his or her own without relying on DITR or another junk removal service, there may be times when an item is loaded once, but later the person(s) filling the structure notice that an item has to come out of the trailer to fit items in a different way.

TIP 4: Fill in empty spaces with small items

Keep in mind that most dumping services will either charge by the load, job, or by a partial job based on a price point or amount of space taken up within the structure.

That said, space is of the essence!

NOTE: In terms of space conservation, always ask questions of the dump service AT THE START. Many service companies have hidden fees beyond what is advertised plus the percentage for local taxes. *SOME* dump services may charge separately for the following – so always ask the right questions initially:

  • Dump or landfill costs in addition to the advertised rental fee
  • Admin or paperwork costs
  • Extra tons of weight
  • Extra days (on the rental side)
  • Going over the top of the structure (height)

How can Dumpster In The Rough Help?

Dumpster In The Rough can help if you find yourself in any of these situations:

  • You need junk removal or a dumpster rental for your home or business
  • You are the ‘new owner’ of illegally dumped trash
  • The need to clean your home post-divorce or holiday party
  • General cleanup of an estate or post-death of a loved one
  • A wholesaler that bought a home in disrepair and is therefore renovating
  • Hurricane or natural disaster aftermath
  • A company that is starting out or rebranding
  • You have many items to be hauled, donated, or recycled (matching the landfill requirements)

No matter the need or type of job, Dumpster in the Rough is available and immersed in the community. They seek to earn your business and become a trusted resource.

In Summary…

Make sure that you choose a dumpster trailer rental company that instructs you well. So often, owners will simply drop-and-go when it comes to trailer rental. That is, they leave the customer to their own defenses with little to no instruction, but then wonder why they struggle with driving the contents down a busy road – or even worse – a congested highway.

This concludes our tips for filling your dumpster!

Handling Electronic Devices – Recycle or Throw Away?

Handling electronics and recycling devices

Are your kids making you the king and queen of the dump?

The next time your kids are playing for hours or seemingly non-stop on their devices, think about the following statistics from Food Truck Empire in terms of handling electronics (33 Disruptive Junk Removal Industry Statistics and Market Predictions (foodtruckempire.com)):

  • 70% of toxic waste in America is a result of electronic waste and that is just 2% of the total waste in America.
  • Only less than 13% of electronic waste is recycled. Popular gadgets such as mobile phones, computers, and TVs compose around 10 million metric tons of e-waste.

What are some options for handling electronics?

· If you want to self-recycle through a ‘fill-a-box’ program, such as: Electronics & E-Waste Recycling | Republic Services

DITR Services Offered – Houston

The services we offer include: dumpster rentals and junk removal. We will dive into both of these services in greater detail below:

Dumpster Rentals

All of our dumpster rentals come by default with 2 Tons of material weight and up to a 25 mile one-way radius for travels. If exceeding these thresholds, extra fees would apply for additional distance (miles), overfilling, impeding pickup, extra days, or added yardage. ALL PRICES ARE CLEAR – there are NO HIDDEN FEES for services offered!

Junk Removal

We offer curbside pickups, minimum and mid-sized junk removals and more. The costs for this type of service depend on the type of material removal and difficulty to transport. For example, if the junk job is in one or more piles versus being lying around the property, the cost to remove the unwanted debris may be much less – due to the time involved. Likewise, if the job request contains stairs, that too can impact the cost of the project.

Payment for this type of service renders half up front and the remaining half at completion. BEFORE and AFTER photos tend to capture the extend and reward of the job.

Once again…Welcome to DITR – we are glad you are here!

DITR Dumpster Size Availability

Our dumpster rental durations are available for one day or three days by default. We may consider more customized durations; however, most customers find that these timeframes are sufficient – most even fill the bin before the rental duration has elapsed.

It we are able to pickup the dumpster bin early, then we will fit the into the schedule – sometimes the ability to be flexible means offering ‘best in class’ service to our customers. They like having options from time to time.

The sizes offered for rent include 7YD, 10YD, and 15YD. Many of our bins are physically either 10YD or 15YD and contain fill lines on the dumpster or communicated in writing (e.g., text messages). We take the ‘guess work’ our of renting a dumpster from our company.

DITR is Glad to have YOU!

Welcome to YOUR Dumpster Company – be sure to stop by our Shop frequently!

Cleaning up debris at a construction site

Not quite ready for a full spring cleaning?

Ok, so you might not be a hoarder by the world’s standards, but you also might not be ready to completely clean or gut a house. That is ok, sometimes just starting small is a good idea. Here are a few ideas to help you declutter – even when it is cold outside…

Ideas Handling Junk when its Cold…

1. Sort your room contents into piles.

2. Find containers, bags or baskets to sort and label the containers.

3. Prepare for junk removal professionals to come in and haul stuff away.

4. Purchase gift certificates from a reputable trash service (to send the hoarder in your life some love). These could be given to a loved one or even used by YOU at a later date when money might be tighter for you than it is today! SAVE for tomorrow!!

5. Start small with a daily or hourly goal to go through stuff – one ‘bite’ at a time. Remember, Rome was not built in a day!

6. Rent a storage unit – but this can sometimes be much more costly than just contacting a trash removal services (such as DITR).

7. Secure items from cold weather:

     A. Tarp plants or give them away.

     B. Protect pets and animals.

     C. Look for unexpected items that can be recycled.

     D. Find local women’s shelters or homeless shelters that can use items – such as: baby goods, couches, old towels. HINT: Usually vet clinics or animal shelters will take gently used towels and even newspapers.
